It was a good point you bring up. I think there are reasons why tools like Oracle SQL Developer have such considerable functionality for formatting SQL. If I dont' like how you wrote something, I can easily format to my way viewing it and play around with the SQL.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As for the Brewers, you don't really have much of a choice living in Sconnie. Packers, Brewers, Bucks. Musings from an Oracle DBA</title><link>https://piontekdd.github.io/dont-cramp-my-sql-style-musings-from/#comment-3451268</link><description>&lt;p&gt;oh man...i'm getting called out! ;)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As much as I would love to do away with the commas at the beginning, I never would (nor do I have that kind of power).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There is certainly a few benefits (as you mentioned) to have the comma at the front of the line, but I try to write it as I read (or would have others read).  Commas never start a line nor come before a word (without a space anyway).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In my younger years, even before I had style, I probably would have been steadfast in my desire to see the demise of the front comma.  But you are absolutely right in that if it works, it's fine by me.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Besides, I had to throw a few playful barbs about the Brewers in there didn't I? ;)&lt;/p&gt;</description><dc:creator xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">chet</dc:creator><pubDate>Mon, 03 Nov 2008 00:04:28 -0000</pubDate></item></channel></rss>
